Donald Trump made quite a few gaffes tonight. There are several that won't sit well with working class voters across the political spectrum. There are two that should be played back a thousand times before the election.
The first was his reply when confronted with the fact that he didn't pay federal taxes for a couple of years: "That makes me smart.”
Working class folks pay their share of taxes and have to pay stiff penalties if they are late or incorrect. I have heard complaints from middle and working class people regarding the wealthy not paying their fair share. Trump not only admitted that he didn't pay, he bragged about it.
The second was his response to Secretary Clinton's assertion that Trump was pleased with the housing crisis because he could buy real estate on the cheap: "That's business."
Millions saw the value of their homes plummet. Hundreds of thousands lost their homes. His cavalier attitude toward the suffering of middle and lower income people should be highlighted again and again.
I believe that the Clinton campaign has not been particularly well run up to this point. Tonight, however, she was very good. She staggered him. The campaign needs to follow up and keep him reeling. He is a huckster and a fraud and he admitted it tonight. He openly displayed his contempt for the working class and gave the Clinton campaign an tremendous opportunity. They need to seize it.
