After watching most of yesterday's "South Carolina Freedom Summit," I was very surprised that one of the comments there got practically no followup. Hunting around this morning turned up only one mention of it on Twitter. Fortunately, C-SPAN lets us replay the clip.
The comment came at the tail end of the first presentation after the lunch break (generously hosted by Chick-fil-A). The session was styled as a "focus group" and was managed by GOP pollster Frank Luntz.
Luntz is a long-time message-crafting consultant, and is also distinguished for other achievements, such as being Politifact's 2010 Lie of the Year winner.
After a few questions to the audience and an onstage panel about whether beating Hillary Clinton was more important than ideological purity, he posed a special question to a focus group of one... the mother-in-law of David Bossie, the head of Citizens United. Since Luntz was so eager to hear her opinion, it's fair to assume that she is considered to be a very wise and influential lady in Republican circles,
Here's how it went down.
Luntz: I want you to give advice to the 2016 candidates. What do they need to know?
GOP Focus Group Member: One man, one vote. People are comin' in this country, across the border, like rats and roaches in a woodpile.
After further elaboration of her views on voter registration and party affiliation, Luntz then polled the audience
Luntz: How many of you would vote for her for President?
The response was clearly positive. Once again, Luntz has identified a message that will be highly resonant for the Republican Party, if not the nation as a whole.
