I'll start by admitting that I am an atheist but that I also have no problem with religion or anyone's religious beliefs, provided that they don't use those religious beliefs in an attempt to legalize discrimination or deny others their Civil Rights.
That said, I think sometimes we should remind ourselves that all religions are not the same and not everyone within said religion shares the same beliefs about things like Marriage Equality.
As an example, we probably all know that the official Catholic stance is that they are against Marriage Equality. And despite Pope Francis' positive changes regarding things like LGBT people, as the head of the Catholic hierarchy he is also against Marriage Equality.
Yet despite all of that Catholics by and large appear to actually be pro-Marriage Equality. The popular vote to legalize marriage for same sex couples in Ireland recently attests to this with 62% voting for Marriage Equality, in a country that is approximately 72% Catholic.
Other examples of countries who allow same sex couples to marry with a majority Catholic religion are: Belgium, Canada, Spain, Argentina, Portugal, Brazil, France, Uruguay and Luxembourg.
And in general a growing number of religions overall support Marriage Equality over time.
Pro Marriage Equality Religions:
United Church of Christ
United Church of Canada

Episcopal Church of the United States (provisional for now)

And there are others but you get the idea. Over time more and more religions support Marriage Equality.
I think this is a good reminder for all of us, including myself that we should be careful when we are fighting those who try to deny us our rights not to paint everyone within that religion with the same brush.
At the same time it is valid to push those who are pro-Marriage Equality to speak out against the official religious stance and try to effect positive change.
